a 16 by 16 image at 2 bits per pixel is 512 bits. 512 divided by 8 is 64 bytes. that is not branding, that is arithmetic. the toad is stored as four 8 by 8 tiles, two bytes per row, low bit plane then high bit plane, leftmost pixel in the most significant bit. this is the exact layout a Game Boy pushed to its screen and it is the exact layout sitting in the AppData of every minted toad.
above: the metasprite pulled apart. four tiles, sixteen bytes each. when someone tells you their jpeg is art, ask them how many bytes. when they say ten megabytes, ask them where those bytes live. then sit very still and let the silence do the research for you.

most NFT art is a URL. the URL points at a server. the server has a billing account. the billing account has a credit card. the credit card has an expiry date. your million dollar ape is four missed payments from being a 404. this is not fud, this is infrastructure analysis.
the toad ships its bytes inside the asset at mint. rent exempt, which on Solana means the account paid its own tomb and lives there forever. nothing renews. nothing expires. the toad does not know what a server is and it never will. that is the entire thesis. sixty four bytes, zero dependencies, one animal.

every sprite in this collection carries at most four colours because the hardware we are honouring could not do five. constraint is the whole art form. give a painter infinite colours and you get content. give a toad four and you get a design decision every single pixel.
the six greens are tuned so the muted ones carry the collection, moss and jade doing the quiet work, toxic screaming twice per hundred. hats ride on top as their own sprites with their own palettes, which is how consoles dressed a character, and why the toad under the hat is still, always, forever, 64 bytes.
